Why Real Estate is a Great Career Path

Why Real Estate is a Great Career Path

If you’ve ever thought about pursuing a career in real estate, there’s no time like the present. Here are three big reasons why being a realtor might be right for you:

You Can Make Good Money

What’s the first thing you want to know about any job? “How much does it pay?” Well, in real estate, the answer is simple. “How much do you want it to pay?”

As a realtor, you’re not being paid a set salary. You’re not being paid an hourly rate. You’re being paid in commission. That means that, potentially, there’s no limit to how much you can make in a given week, month, or year. It all comes down to how motivated you are and where your priorities lay. Sure, it can be a lot of hard work, but what job isn’t? At least in real estate, there’s always room for growth.

You’re Impacting People’s Lives

Housing is something people always need. Canadians crave St. Albert real estate just like folks in Hawaii are on the hunt for Honolulu homes. What that means is, not only are you likely to find work anywhere you go, but your job also makes a difference in people’s lives.

Whether you’re selling a young couple a starter home or helping a family obtain the vacation house of their dreams, by providing something that people need you are making a positive impact on the world. Sometimes being a realtor also means being a friend, counselor, or life coach. You may not expect it at first, but selling real estate can be surprisingly emotional.

You Get To Be Your Own Boss

One of the great advantages of selling real estate is that it’s not a 9-to-5 job. It’s more like a whenever-you-feel-like-it job. As noted earlier, you’re the one in control of how much you make, in that you’re the one in control of how much you work. A little low on cash? Work more. Doing okay? Take a few days off.

The point is, the only person you have to answer to is yourself. That’s very attractive for someone with a busy life who needs flexibility. And since most of your work is done by phone/email or during in-person meetings with sellers and buyers, you don’t actually need an office. Post listings on your laptop at 2 a.m. Schedule house showings in between the kids’ soccer practice and dinner. Being a realtor really gives you a chance to take control of your life.
